Strange Attractor at Studio Soto, Boston

Strange Attractor at Studio Soto, Boston
A couple of weeks ago, I trucked down to Boston's Fort Point neighborhood for a performance and installation piece at Studio Soto. I've spent a good bit of time over the last several years at experimental music events, but this was one of the most stimulating in recent memory. A group of artists visiting from Ireland collaborated with several local folks over the period of nearly a month, and created a complete visual and auditory environment to explore. The photo above shows some of my favorite moments. From the top: interior of a dollhouse, filled with light and sound; chair piled high with magnetic tape (l); exterior of the dollhouse (r); bass on the (operating?) table; overhead projector filled with objects (l) creating live collage projected on the wall (r).

Marimekko opens in Boston!

Marimekko opens in Boston!
This weekend, I was lucky enough to head to Boston's Back Bay for a celebration of the opening of a new Marimekko store. The team in Finland created fabric cakes in honor of the new store, and Susan Ward, one of the leading experts on the Finnish design house, gave a talk on Sunday morning about the history of Marimekko and its arrival in the U.S. (thanks to architect Ben Thompson and Design Research in Cambridge). I learned a lot, enjoyed shopping, and even spent a little time lounging on the giant poufs outside. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday!
